The Army Flying Museum in Middle Wallop, Hampshire, has earned the prestigious Gold Award from the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme.
The recognition comes just months after the museum signed the Armed Forces Covenant in December 2022, underscoring its commitment to supporting the Armed Forces community.
The Gold Award is given to employers who have demonstrated a high level of support for Defence personnel.
To achieve this, organisations must advocate for Defence, both internally and externally, through established policies that support the Armed Forces.
They must also showcase ‘Forces-friendly’ credentials in their recruitment processes and offer support to Veterans, Cadets, Reservists, and military families.
The Army Flying Museum has integrated these practices into its operations, ensuring a supportive environment for those connected to the military.
Neil Sexton, Chairman of the Army Flying Museum’s Board of Trustees and a retired Army Air Corps Major General, expressed his pride in the award: “I am delighted that the forces-friendly credentials of the Army Flying Museum have been recognised by this Gold Award under the Employer Recognition Scheme.
“The Museum is the embodiment of a link between today’s Army aviators, their heritage and their future, with many of its employees and volunteers being military veterans and family members of serving or former Army aviation soldiers.”
He added that local cadets play an essential role at major events like the Museum’s annual fundraiser, Wallop Wheels and Wings.
The museum employs a diverse team, including many veterans and military family members.
Jade Foulkes, a Front of House team member, commented on the museum’s supportive environment: “As a military spouse, it is heartening to know that I have the understanding of the whole team at the Museum and the flexibility in my working life to be able to support my family in what can sometimes be a rapidly changing environment.”
The National Armed Forces Covenant, signed by the museum, is a pledge to ensure that those who serve or have served in the Armed Forces, along with their families, are treated fairly and without disadvantage. It reflects the nation’s moral obligation to support those who sacrifice so much.
The Museum’s efforts over the past two years have culminated in this award, marking a significant achievement in its mission to support Defence personnel. Those interested in learning more or working with the Museum can contact Amanda Stallard, Development Manager, at [email protected].
