Barratt Homes volunteers roll up their sleeves for Fareham animal rescue centre

Employees from Barratt Homes’ Southampton division recently swapped bricks for brushes as they volunteered at the RSPCA’s Stubbington Ark in Fareham.

The team of five stepped in to help with essential maintenance tasks, giving the shelter’s staff more time to focus on their core mission: finding new homes for Hampshire’s pets.

Stubbington Ark has been a sanctuary for animals for over 40 years, providing care and a second chance for cats, dogs, rabbits, and even wildlife.

Kate Luxford, Animal Centre Manager, expressed her gratitude for the volunteers’ efforts: “It’s always so busy here that we are incredibly grateful to our fabulous volunteers for helping us with the maintenance and upkeep of our premises so that we can focus on animals that need our help.”

The Barratt Homes employees spent the day painting, gardening, and tackling various jobs to keep the Ark clean and welcoming for its many residents.

James Dunne, Managing Director of Barratt’s Southampton division, highlighted the company’s commitment to supporting local communities: “We want to support organisations in the communities where we are building new homes, and Stubbington Ark is providing a lifeline for animals who need rehoming in the local area. It was great to see our team working hard on behalf of the charity.”

As part of Barratt’s commitment to community engagement, every employee is entitled to two days of paid leave annually for volunteering. The initiative allows staff to contribute to causes close to their hearts while making a tangible difference in their local areas.

Stubbington Ark, which serves a 400 square mile area across Hampshire, is not just a rescue centre but also home to a veterinary clinic and an education centre, where schools and groups can learn about animal welfare.

The charity’s work ensures that each animal, from small rodents to livestock, receives the care they need before finding a new home or being released back into the wild.
