Last week saw 300 Southampton seniors come together for the ninth annual Senior Saints Christmas Party, held at St Mary’s Stadium.
Together they tucked into a turkey roast with all the trimmings, courtesy of the Saints Foundation alongside event sponsor Bargate Homes.
The seniors were also joined by a number of club legends from the 1976 FA Cup winning squad, who took part in Christmas games and songs, a raffle and even a Secret Santa exchange.
This year’s event was the biggest ever, cementing the Christmas party as a staple of the Senior Saints calendar.
Mark White, MD of Bargate Homes, said: “It’s great to partner with Saints Foundation and we’re all extremely proud to fund another of their fantastic initiatives.
“Christmas is a time of year when many elderly people can feel lonely and isolated, but this event has been jolly, merry and encompasses everything Christmas should be about.
“We’re dedicated to supporting local communities, whether that be building new homes, supporting grassroots football for youngsters, or helping to bring older generations together and feel connected with their community.”
Senior Saints run 12 active sessions across the city for over 60s, including circuits, seated chair exercise, wellbeing walks and walking sport.
They’re also great social occasions, with many of the seniors sitting down post-activities for tea and a chat.
Paul Hedges, Health Projects Manager at Saints Foundation, added: “Christmas is a time for giving.
“Thanks to Bargate Homes’ generous sponsorship, we’ve been able to invite more older people than ever to enjoy this annual festive celebration.
“For many of the attendees, this will be the only Christmas celebration they get this year.
“Isolation and loneliness is an epidemic in our older communities and Senior Saints is all about establishing vital connections between people.”
