GO! Southampton is launching a new campaign this September to highlight the many attractions of the city’s historic Old Town. The “Love the Old Town” campaign, running throughout the month, aims to encourage both residents and visitors to explore the area, which offers much more than just its rich history.

Flo Bevis, Marketing Manager at GO! Southampton, shared the campaign’s vision: “Love the Old Town is all about raising awareness and showcasing the fantastic offer Old Town presents, inspiring those who live and work in the city to go and explore what’s available right on their doorstep.” She added: “Whether you’re a food lover, a history buff, a fan of live music, or just looking for a great day out, the Old Town has something special for everyone.”

Promoted through Visit Southampton and Your Southampton, the campaign will spotlight the Old Town’s vibrant food and drink scene, nightlife, culture, arts, shopping, and events. The aim is to show that while the area is steeped in history, it also boasts a wide array of contemporary attractions.

Hannah Preston, Venue Manager at the medieval arts and heritage venue God’s House Tower, echoed this sentiment: “Old Town is a mini destination in itself. Every visit offers something new, from centuries-old history to world-class dining in more than 50 restaurants, bars and cafes.” Hannah added: “People can kick back and watch the world go by or let loose at night with exciting live music. And the best bit is that it’s all right here waiting for them.”

The Old Town, which includes landmarks such as the Bargate, the medieval city walls, and St Michael’s Church, the oldest still in use in Southampton, offers a wealth of historical spots to discover. Ros Cassy, Convenor of the Old Town Community Forum, shared her thoughts: “It’s hard to pick a favourite, but St Michael’s Church, built in 1070, is astounding. It’s the oldest church still in use in the whole city. It’s well worth a visit.”

To entice locals and tourists alike, the campaign will include special offers available on the SO card throughout September. Highlights include 20 per cent off events at The 1865, a fish and chips deal at The Platform Tavern, and discounts on drinks and escape rooms at various venues.

“This campaign also ties in with some exciting events taking place in Old Town in September, including Heritage Open Days, Southampton Cocktail Week and Music In The City,” Flo added. The campaign will be supported by both digital promotions and a printed guide, which will be distributed to selected postcodes and available at key locations across the city.
