Pupils at Milford on Sea C of E Primary School were treated to a visit this week from NMSB and their newly decorated road sweeper.
The New Milton building materials supplier has been running a competition to create a design for the vehicle based on the theme of recycling awareness.
After receiving more than 50 entries, the judging panel – comprising headteacher Kate Crawford, NMSB waste manager Rob Wheeler, and Paul Brierley, who drives the sweeper – whittled the designs down to just four.
The winning design came from Tyler Pallant, 9, while runners up Elouise Pallant, Mia Roberts and India Dowse all received mini models of their designs.
Headteacher Kate said: “The road sweeper design competition caused much excitement across the school, which culminated in a visit from the newly painted road sweeper with Tyler’s design and school logo proudly displayed on the side.
“It was received with very loud cheers and 320 pupils and their families will now be eagerly looking out for the truck in the local community.
“Thank you NMSB for bringing learning to life and helping us spread an important environmental message!”
NMSB has worked with the school on several projects over the past six months, including the removal of their old swimming pool and processing of the materials at the company’s recycling facility in Pennington.
Students and teachers also visited the Pennington site last November to learn more about how the recycling process works and see it in action.
Suzanne Wright, marketing and strategy director at NMSB, added: “Our ongoing partnership with Milford on Sea Primary School is something we’re immensely proud of.
“Engaging with the local community is one of our top priorities, as is recycling, so to combine the two has been fantastic.
“Alongside the launch of our road sweeper, welcoming the school to our facility in Pennington is definitely a highlight for us – getting the opportunity to educate future generations on waste education and sustainability.”
The road sweeper will be keeping busying tidying up local roads between Lymington and Wallisdown, as well as maintaining NMSB’s sites.
