Farnborough Airport has announced the sale of its millionth litre of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
Having started offering SAF to customers in 2021, it’s since become one of the largest single-site suppliers in the UK’s business aviation community.
Farnborough also became the first airport in the world to offer SAF at the same price as its standard Jet A1 fuel in the run-up to last year’s Farnborough International Airshow.
CEO Simon Geere said: “At Farnborough Airport, we want to be a genuine catalyst for change, and are always looking for new ways to supply and create sustainable energy sources.
“We’re proud of this milestone and our vision is to become a SAF only airport before the end of the decade, acting as an early adopter ‘of scale’ and accelerating the wider take-up of SAF across the aviation industry.”
Farnborough Airport launched their Roadmap to Net Zero in 2022, which will put them on course to reach net zero for emissions within their direct control by 2030.
This latest milestone follows the announcement of plans to build one of the largest solar installations in the South East, helping to generate 25 per cent of the airport’s power.
The new panels will be fitted onto the curved hangar rooves, as well as the terminal building, control tower, Ground Support Facility building and Aviator Hampshire hotel.
