InstaVolt has kicked off construction of a second electric vehicle charging site in Iceland following the successful launch of its flagship hub near Reykjavik Keflavik Airport this June.
This time they’ve chosen Fridheimar Tomato Farm – a regular feature on the Golden Circle Tour of Iceland, just 20 minutes from Gullfoss Falls and half an hour from the famous Haukadular Geothermal Valley.
Located at Fridheimar’s iconic restaurant, the site will feature four ultra-fast 160kW chargers powered by 100 per cent renewable energy.
The grand opening of InstaVolt’s first site in Iceland.
As the country gears up to ban the registration of new gasoline and diesel cars by 2030, InstaVolt is looking to drive that transition with plans for a number of other facilities in the coming years.
They have the backing of the Icelandic government, with Minister of the Environment, Energy and Climate, Gudlaugur Thór Thórdarson, leading the charge.
He said: “Iceland has been successful in its energy transition for road transport and is in second place after Norway with regard to the purchase rate of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles.
“However, for Iceland to reach the government’s plan for full energy transition by 2040, we need to accelerate our energy transition.
“An increasing number of EV chargers should make it easier for us to meet our sustainability targets.”
