Housebuilder Barratt Homes has donated £5,000 towards a play castle and slide for pupils at Hart Plain Infant School.

The developer was keen to step in after hearing that the school needed funding for the playground renovations. With the school aiming to raise £10,000 for the works, Barratt’s contribution has significantly accelerated the process.

Headteacher, Sharon Peckham, said: “Hart Plain Infants is very small, so Barratt’s donation is huge for us. We asked our children what they thought would improve our school, and they said a play castle with a slide.

“Our PTA has been fundraising for more than 18 months through events such as school discos, and summer and Christmas fayres, and Barratt’s generous donation has now doubled our savings. This means we can purchase the slide, which is fantastic.”

Barratt Homes is committed to building relationships with schools and young people in the region, and Tammy Bishop, Barratt Homes Sales Director, is thrilled to help.

She said: “It’s so important that we show our support for schools and other organisations in the communities where we are building, and it’s been a pleasure to make this donation to Hart Plain Infant School.

“I’m looking forward to seeing the play castle take shape and can’t wait to hear what the children think of the finished product.”

Barratt Homes has since heard that Hart Plain Infant School will need to sort safety surfacing ahead of installation of the castle and slide and has offered to help with that too.

Sharon added: “This is beyond generous and on behalf of everyone here, including all our pupils, we’re very grateful.”

Hart Plain Infant School caters for pupils from age 4 to 7 and is located in Cowplain, Waterlooville.

Barratt Homes is building new homes across the region. For more information about its new homes in Hampshire, visit Pebble Walk and Harbour Place.
