David Wilson Homes has donated £1,500 to Youth Options, a charity which helps young people in Hampshire realise their potential.

The contribution will help the charity reach more young people around the county with its youth work.

Youth Options offers both open access youth sessions and intensive key work, with sessions enabling young people to express their thoughts and feelings and, with the help of youth support workers, take small steps to address and work through their barriers.

Carly Redwood, Fundraising Manager at Youth Options, said: “There is a need for youth support now more than ever. We support children and young people across three key areas which focus on community youth work, targeted support, and providing opportunities for future development.

“This donation will allow us to continue offering accessible support to those most in need, creating opportunities for them to realise their potential and have a chance of a better future.

“There was pure joy, delight, and elation when we were approached about the donation. The children and young people are at the heart of everything we do, as we are a people’s organisation and being chosen is a great affirmation for the recognition of our transforming work.”

In 2022 to 2023, Youth Options saw a steep increase in the demand for its work. Over that period, its youth support workers delivered 4,932 sessions over 12,881 hours for 6,143 individual children and young people, which is an increase of 33% on 2021 to 2022.

To connect and inspire young people in Hampshire, the charity aims to develop their wellbeing, social and emotional capabilities, improve their engagement with learning and empower them to make informed positive decisions.

The diversionary activities provided become the catalyst to help drive positive change with the aim of reducing anti-social behaviour, alleviating boredom, and creating a safer community with a population of young people who are happier, healthier and more resilient.

As well as offering support to children and young people, the charity also runs a variety of affordable childcare opportunities including pre-schools, as well as breakfast, after-school, holiday, and nature clubs.

David Wilson Homes’ donation was made as part of its Community Fund scheme via The Barratt Foundation, which is run by its parent company, Barratt Developments. It is designed to support national and local charities, large and small, across the UK to leave a legacy in the communities in which the housebuilder operates.

Campbell Gregg, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes Southern, said: “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to support Youth Options through our recent donation as we understand the importance of empowering the next generation.

“The charity’s commitment to providing greater opportunities for young people aligns with our values of community enrichment, and we believe that by contributing to charities such as this, we can help create a brighter future for young people and the wider community.”
