Shining investment! Andover's Portway Domestic Appliances installs 114 solar panels

Portway Domestic Appliances (PDA), the Andover-based national domestic and commercial appliance supplier, is investing in green energy technology in a move to cut costs and carbon.

The business has installed 114 solar panels on the roof of its 80,000 sq ft combined warehouse and retail space, boosting its green credentials and setting it up for future growth.

It’s a move which will allow PDA to save 11 tonnes of carbon every year – equivalent to an 18-person round trip to Germany. It will also reduce the business’s energy costs by more than £10,000 per year, servicing 57 per cent of its power demand and freeing up funds which can be further invested in the business.

The investment was supported by a £45,000 loan from Lloyds Bank.

Jack White, chairman at Portway Domestic Appliances, said: “Managing rising energy costs has been one of the top priorities for suppliers over a number of years now.

“In our case, the warehouse is a primary source of power demand, so we needed to create a strategy that would strike a balance between keeping our operating costs down and remaining competitive in the market.

“Investing in on-site renewable power supply has been a huge step in the right direction for our continued growth and ongoing journey towards net zero.

“Now we’re in a position where we’ve slashed our reliance on the grid, and we can explore new routes to going green and create more resilience for any future economic challenges”.
