Hampshire construction firm teams up with Solent Sports FC to boost mental health

PAH Building & Construction, a Hampshire-based firm, has become the main sponsor of local football club Solent Sports FC for the upcoming season.

This partnership is part of PAH‘s commitment to men’s mental health and builds on the company’s support of the Lighthouse charity, which focuses on the emotional and physical wellbeing of construction workers and their families.

Solent Sports was initially established to offer accessible recreational football opportunities to people of all abilities and fitness levels, and has a strong focus on mental health.

Steven Bramwell, a Working Foreman at PAH, helped launch the club’s league team in 2022 to give men, who share a passion for football, a positive outlet for improving their wellbeing.

The club, which narrowly missed second place last year, will compete in Southampton Division 5 this season, having achieved double promotion.

In addition to its league success, Solent Sports has expanded to include youth, women’s, Pride, and veterans’ teams, and even a transplant disability squad, as well as growing geographically to reach several regions including Hampshire, York, Northern Ireland, and the Isle of Wight.

PAH Building & Construction’s sponsorship follows its ongoing work with Lighthouse. This year, the firm is providing mental health first aid training for its staff and access to wellbeing support services.

Mark Cuttriss, Director at PAH Building & Construction, expressed his pride in the sponsorship: “It has been fantastic to support Solent Sports FC this year after Steven took on the challenge of establishing a league and we are proud to support the club next season.

“Mental health is a cause close to our hearts and a prevalent issue in the construction industry. Between our partnership with Lighthouse and now Solent Sports FC, it is encouraging to see growing awareness and support for mental health and wellbeing in the industry.”

Steven Bramwell, Assistant Manager and Coach at Solent Sports FC, also commented: “Since the club was established, our team has gone from strength to strength, and we are now looking forward to playing in a new division this season.

“Our goal is to create a welcoming environment where participants can feel comfortable, meet new people, and clear their minds during each session, and this has proven to have a significant positive impact on our players.

“Having the support of PAH as our main sponsor will enable us to keep growing the club and invest in our players’ training.”
