In a significant move to support climate action, Romsey-based RS Marine Group recently participated in the Portsmouth leg of the Running Out of Time Climate Relay.
The relay, which spans from Ben Nevis to Big Ben in London, saw the company’s high-performance Pulse 63 electric RIB (rigid inflatable boat) demonstrating its capabilities on the famous Solent waters.
The event started at the picturesque Langstone Harbour in Chichester, where the Pulse 63 electric chase boat accompanied the RS Quest dinghy. Sailors onboard carried the climate awareness baton from the Andrew Simpson Centre to Eastney Ferry Port in Portsmouth.
“The relay is all about getting people involved and talking about climate change,” said Harry Hughes, Head of Logistics at Running Out of Time.
“We’re here to provide safety cover to the instructors on board the sailing boat. The Pulse 63 is a really quiet and lovely ride, and we’ve been able to chat to everyone on board and on the other boat.”
Participants in the relay included thousands of runners, walkers, cyclists, and other environmentally-conscious individuals, all united in delivering a final message to Parliament. The message calls for actions to reduce emissions, restore nature, and support those most affected by climate change.
The relay began at Ben Nevis in Scotland on June 6, 2024, and embarked on a 2,436km journey to Big Ben in London. This extensive relay, the UK’s largest sporting climate event, comprised 210 stages and over 80 stops at various climate and nature projects across the country. The baton exchanged hands over 20,000 times, culminating in its arrival at Parliament Square on Election Day, July 4, to deliver its crucial message.
