Millway House in Andover has unveiled a new sensory garden, offering a vibrant sanctuary designed to enhance residents’ well-being.
The garden, made possible through a £700 donation from the Andover Baptist Church, features sensory plants, a calming water feature, and a memory wall dedicated to past residents.
The Mayor of Test Valley, Ian Jeffrey, officially opened the garden by cutting the ribbon alongside residents Jean and Graham. Ian said: “The Mayoress and I were thrilled to join residents and staff for the opening of the wonderful new sensory garden. It will be a welcome space for residents and their families to enjoy.”
The morning coffee event, which marked the garden’s opening, was attended by residents, staff, and community members. A troupe of Morris dancers added to the festive atmosphere with a traditional performance.
Sarah Holland, Wellbeing and Activities Coordinator at Millway House, expressed gratitude to the Andover Baptist Church for their support.
Sarah said: “We are incredibly grateful to the Andover Baptist Church for their kind donation that made this garden possible.
“It is a wonderful addition to our home, providing a space where our residents can connect with nature, engage their senses, and find peace and comfort.
“The memory wall within the garden stands as a poignant tribute to former residents, allowing their stories and legacies to live on in the hearts of our community.”
The donation, raised by the Andover Community Church, highlights the community’s support for the well-being of Millway House residents.
Minister Alex Pugh said: “We are so pleased to be able to support this project that is so beneficial for the well-being of the residents at Millway House.”
