Southampton-based disability training provider aims to boost inclusion with new initiative

Southampton-based disability awareness training provider, Bascule Disability Training, has launched an initiative aiming to improve inclusion within Hampshire.

Bascule Disability Training is offering businesses in the county half-price Access Audits until the end of July, which will help businesses and organisations to understand how inclusive their spaces are, and how their buildings and facilities can be improved to better serve customers, clients and employees with disabilities.

These audits will enable local businesses to consider how inclusive the premises and facilities they occupy truly are, giving consideration to routes to the building, entrances and exits, design and interior aesthetics, features, fittings, signage, parking and much more.

Bascule presents its findings in comprehensive reports, advising organisations on how they can improve.

The audit is a thorough assessment of what barriers the buildings may be presenting in terms of employment opportunities, as well as accessing goods and services.

After the audit, organisations will be more aware of ways in which they can comply with legislation and open their doors to all, fostering a more inclusive community.

Chris Jay, Managing Director of Bascule Disability Training said, “At Bascule, we train staff to enhance their awareness, perception and understanding of disability, but when it comes to taking meaningful steps towards change, inclusive environments are also paramount.

“It’s now our aim to help organisations identify and advise on the changes required to remove any barriers that may exist, helping our clients to provide a building that is welcoming and accessible to all.

“We are looking forward to working with local businesses, supporting them to make meaningful changes that will benefit everyone.”

As a social enterprise, Bascule Disability Training uses 75% of its profits to fund free awareness days in schools.  Businesses interested in auditing their space at a discounted rate can contact Bascule Disability Training at [email protected].
