A centuries-old estate with strong ties to the royal family, Broadlands in Romsey has for the first time opened its doors for wedding ceremonies.
Couples will be able to tie the knot in one of three locations – the walled garden, the Inigo Bridge, or the newly-restored orangery – with capacity for up to 50 guests.
Lying along the banks of the River Test, Broadlands was acquired in 1736 by Henry Temple, the 2nd Viscount Palmerston, who oversaw the estate’s transformation into a Georgian house with landscaped gardens.
It’s since been home to two-time PM Lord Palmerston, and in the 20th century welcomed both Queen Elizabeth II and the present King Charles III for their honeymoons.
Richard Jordan-Baker, a Director at Broadlands, said: “We host a variety of events throughout the year, including concerts and festivals, but have never been available for weddings until now.
“All three of our locations are absolutely superb – Inigo Bridge is the most beautiful spot over the River Test, the walled gardens are enchanting, and the recently refurbished Orangery is elegant and evocative.”
The estate is looking to limit weddings to a few memorable ceremonies each week, with the first set to take place between Monday and Saturday from May to September 2024.
Enquiries are now open.
