Portsmouth business campus is getting its pedal on as bike share scheme expands across the county

Beryl Bikes have landed at Lakeside North Harbour business campus in Portsmouth, offering occupiers a chance to cut down on their carbon footprint.

The company is providing free taster sessions for teams of up to six, with instructors on hand to guide groups through the campus.

It comes following Beryl’s partnership with Solent Transport to expand their bike and e-bike hire scheme across Portsmouth, Southampton and the Isle of Wight.

Together they’re running Department of Transport-funded trials to help reduce congestion and CO₂ emissions in the region as part of the Solent Future Transport Zone.

By the end of the summer, Beryl intends to have 515 bikes stationed at around 280 bays across the Solent, putting 90 per cent of people within a five-minute walk of a bay.

CEO Phil Ellis said: “It’s great news that we’re able to further expand our schemes and enable even more people to take advantage of the excellent local cycling infrastructure.

“The schemes have already had a significant impact on decarbonising the region’s transport network, preventing more than four tonnes of harmful carbon emissions and replacing almost 9000 car, van, taxi or motorbike journeys across the Solent.”
