Maritime UK Solent is celebrating a vital cash injection for the region’s businesses in their mission to develop green technologies for a more sustainable future.
The government’s Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition (CMDC4) considered 33 project applications from across the UK – 12 of which are based in the Solent, representing 24 per cent of the total £33 million available.
Working alongside government officials and Innovate UK, MUK Solent encouraged its maritime network of more than 900 organisations to explore opportunities during this fourth round of funding.
Among the clean technologies they put forward were electric, hydrogen, ammonia, methanol and wind power.
Anne-Marie Mountifield, chair of Maritime UK Solent, said: “This is a wonderful boost for the Solent’s maritime cluster and congratulations to those organisations who were successful in securing funding.
“These initiatives position the UK as a leader in emerging clean maritime technologies, fostering sustainable high-skilled jobs across the country and boosting coastal economies.
“In the long term, the green technologies that emerge from the Solent’s world-leading maritime cluster will ensure that the region and the UK retain a strategic position on the global maritime stage.”
