Women in Tech Hampshire hosts over 50 attendees in ‘outstanding’ inaugural event

Women in Tech Hampshire (WiTH) held its first event, hosted by Spectrum IT, welcoming more than 50 attendees.

The evening, which the group described as an ‘outstanding success’, featured both networking and discussions, combining under a shared commitment of fostering diversity in the tech sector.

The networking, complete with refreshments, provided attendees that chance to connect with likeminded professionals.

Attendees included everyone from graduates to C-Suite level, offering everyone insights to enhance their roles and offering valuable takeaways to improve and diversify their hiring process.

The evening then moved on to panel discussions featuring speakers Jess Pomfret, Database Platform Architect at Data Masterminds, Samantha Kingston, CEO at Virtual Umbrella, and NetApp Service Delivery Manager & Head of UK WIT Tamsin Minton.

Following introductions, each shared their career journeys and experiences in the tech industry. Some of whom had unexpected paths into tech, including a theatre stage hand and a football enthusiast, alongside the traditional routes.

The panel discussion also explored topics beyond personal journeys, delving into the importance of sparking interest in computer science, technology, and STEM subjects among younger children, particularly girls.

The group agreed that early action is crucial and acknowledged that showcasing strong female role models could positively influence girls’ and women’s interest in tech.

The evening then concluded with a final networking session.
