Maritime UK Solent is looking for ‘visionary industry experts’ to join its board as non-executive directors.
These voluntary roles are open to individuals from the private sector who are backed by a proven track record of leadership within the maritime SME community and/or marine sector.
Expertise in maritime innovation or green shipping is also desirable.
Candidates are to dedicate one day a month to board duties, which will involve fostering relationships and leading efforts to expand and elevate the Solent maritime community.
Anne-Marie Mountifield, chair of Maritime UK Solent, said: “The maritime sector contributes around 25 per cent of the total economic output of the Solent economy, and is undoubtedly our core sector.
“Our ambition is for the Solent to be recognised globally for maritime excellence, enabling maritime businesses and organisations operating in the region to benefit from the Solent brand and make us the first choice for maritime investment and collaboration.
“The opportunity to join the board comes at an exciting time for us, following the government’s latest commitment of a £1 million fund to support the development of maritime cluster organisations such as ours.
“Now is the perfect opportunity to find individuals who can help us lead, champion, and grow the Solent maritime sector and truly make a difference.”
The Solent maritime sector generates £7.7 billion of economic output and is a key contributor to the UK’s maritime excellence.
Operating within the family of Maritime UK – the collective voice for the UK’s maritime industries – MUK Solent enables the region to directly influence national maritime decision-making and leadership while providing a direct route to government.
It also champions Solent success on a global scale, having recently partnered with Canada’s Ocean Technology Council of Nova Scotia (OTCNS).
“We’re looking for talented, dedicated, and experienced individuals who are willing to be ambassadors for the sector, bringing energy and passion as champions for the Solent’s economic success”, Anne-Marie added.
“Now is the perfect opportunity to help us take Maritime UK Solent to the world stage, and we look forward to meeting our applicants.”
Applications close on 3 June 2024.
