Over 34,000 residents in Hythe, Fawley, and Dibden will soon have better access to lifesaving defibrillators thanks to a £16,000 donation from ExxonMobil Fawley.
The contribution has enabled the installation of four solar-powered defibrillators in popular local areas, providing critical support in case of cardiac emergencies.
The defibrillators, which are powered by solar energy to ensure reliable operation, are positioned in key locations such as Holbury’s Long Lane, the entrance to Calshot on Calshot Road, Fawley Road beside Netley View Post Office, and next to Ewart Recreational Ground in Hythe.
These locations were chosen for their high foot and vehicle traffic, ensuring quick access for both residents and the 15 million visitors to the New Forest each year.
According to the National Institute of Healthcare and Excellence (NICE), early defibrillation within 3–5 minutes of a cardiac arrest can lead to survival rates as high as 70 per cent. However, the chance of survival decreases by 10 per cent for every minute of delay.
Fawley Parish Council Chairman Alan Alvey expressed his gratitude: “Fawley Parish Council is very grateful to ExxonMobil Fawley for providing two new defibrillators for the Fawley community.
“These are incredibly special cabinets; they are solar powered so the batteries will be kept at a good temperature to preserve their power. They are in positions where you can pull up in a vehicle, grab the defib, and get going.”
Richard Rastall, Fawley Site Safety, Security, Health and Environment Manager, said: “We’re really pleased to support our local community with the installation of these four defibrillators.
“At ExxonMobil Fawley, health and safety is at the core of what we do, and having trained in using defibrillators myself, I know just how important they can be in an emergency. We are glad to help ensure that these lifesaving devices are there for residents and visitors where they’re needed most.”
