GO! Southampton brings in new security force to tackle crime and keep city retailers safe

A new security company is set to help combat crime and antisocial behaviour in Southampton.

Argenbright Security Europe Limited (ASEL) has been appointed by GO! Southampton, the city’s business improvement district (BID), to improve security for businesses and shoppers.

Together, they’ll build on the work of the Southampton Business Crime Partnership (SBCP), which has given the city a strong reputation for its safe and vibrant nighttime economy – as recognised by its Purple Flag accreditation for two years running.

Jade McCauley, operations manager for GO! Southampton, said: “Our focus is on deterring crime both during the day – supporting retailers and our thriving hospitality businesses – and then into the evening, supporting the nighttime economy.

“As well as our BID member businesses, we work with organisations including Southampton City Council, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary, South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS), the Street Pastors, together with private firms like ASEL to make sure the city is a safe place for everyone.

“Like everywhere else, the city centre is still facing issues with rough sleeping, crime and antisocial behaviour which affect the people who live and work in the city, as well as visitors.

“All partners are working together to help tackle these issues, and ASEL’s appointment will help reinforce our efforts with a fresh approach.”
