RS Marine Group brings RS Aero production home to Cowes

Cowes-based RS Marine Group is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its internationally acclaimed RS Aero by moving production in-house.

After a decade of outsourcing to MTAG Composites, the iconic single-hander will now be built alongside other models like the RS21, RS400, and RS500 at the group’s Isle of Wight facilities.

This move is expected to improve quality control, reduce the carbon footprint, and lower build costs—savings that will be passed on to customers.

RS Aero’s journey

Since its launch, the RS Aero has made a significant impact on the global sailing community, with 3,600 boats sold across 60 countries. Its lightweight 33 kg hull, durable carbon rig, and four rig sizes have made it a favourite among sailors of all ages and abilities.

With simple but effective design, the RS Aero offers exhilarating racing and represents one of the most advanced boats in its class. The fleet’s Corinthian spirit has helped foster a thriving community worldwide.

Alex Newton-Southon, Co-CEO of RS Marine Group, has been closely involved with the RS Aero’s development. He said: “I’ve had the privilege of racing in the RS Aero fleet and being part of the team that designed the boat. It’s been incredible to see how it has evolved over the last decade.

“Bringing production to Cowes is a proud moment for the group. It allows us to continue delivering the performance, durability, and modern techniques that the RS Aero is known for.”

Manufacture at the Cowes facility will begin this autumn, with the first new hulls expected to be ready for delivery in early 2025.
