Work starts this summer on a new affordable housing development of 22 homes in Hythe.
Dorset-based AJC Group won the contract on behalf of New Forest District Council.
The completed development will include a mix of homes, ranging from one and two-bedroom apartments, to two, three, and four-bedroom family houses.
New public open space will also be created as well as a play area.
Wildlife will be enhanced with planting of native species and pollinators.
The site, which is south of Beaulieu Road and less than one mile from Hythe town centre, originally accommodated the old NHS Hythe and Dibden War Memorial Hospital.
A new state of the art hospital was built on the adjoining site in 2022.
David Cracklen, Director of AJC Group, said: “We are delighted to have won the contract to deliver this important affordable housing site in Hythe.
“This development will go some way to meeting the local housing needs of the community, and will create affordable housing in a sustainable and accessible location.
“Historically, the New Forest has not benefited from enough affordable housing, especially for families and first time buyers. It is encouraging to see the NFDC council adopt such a forward thinking vision.
“As part of our commitment of building 500 affordable homes in the next five years, we are proud to be providing an opportunity to own a home in this beautiful area of Hampshire.”
