Meachers recently invited a group of students from the University of Southampton to visit its Nursling facility and learn from some of the best in the sector.

The budding logisticians, who are all studying for a Masters in Transportation Planning and Engineering, met up with Commercial Director Gary Whittle to talk freight forwarding, transport and distribution, and warehousing.

Gary provided an overview of the company’s history and how its methods have evolved over time, emphasising the importance of accreditation in today’s industry.

Students also had the chance to tour Meachers’ warehousing facilities, where they could observe the processes and procedures involved in logistics up close.

Gary said: “We were thrilled to welcome the students at the University of Southampton and provide them with a comprehensive understanding of the logistics industry.

“As a company, we take pride in our duty to leave a legacy and believe that inspiring the next generation of logisticians is vital to safeguarding the industry’s future.”

Onsite experience like this is key to the University curriculum, added lecturer Tom Cherrett: “This is just one of the many visits that I’ve done while teaching this module.

“Before going, we conduct a series of lectures to equip students with the theoretical understanding of the concepts they will encounter.

“Today’s visit serves as a crucial supplement, providing an important practical element to reinforce those concepts and further develop their understanding.”
