Tangle launches new dog bowl made from recycled fishing nets to mark Plastic Free July

Tangle, the Portsmouth-based company out to clean up the ocean by recycling old fishing nets, has launched a new dog bowl.

Through the company’s partnerships at ports, fishers are incentivised to exchange their old nets which reduces the likelihood of them being dumped at sea.

These are then collected and sorted before making their way to Tangle’s selected recycling facility, where they’re deconstructed and sorted into different types of plastics and colours ready to be processed and turned into new products.

The new dog bowl was launched to coincide with the start of ‘Plastic Free July’.

Xavier Warburton, co-founder of Tangle, said: “As an eco-conscious dog owner, it was so important to me to have a positive impact on the environment and also create top of the range products that last.

“Following the incredible success of our first product, the Tangle Dog Lead, which we launched last year, we know that dog owners want to make a difference too. They love our products and have been patiently waiting for the next product launch, the Tangle Dog Bowl.’

“These awful ghost nets make up nearly half of all ocean plastics, and our precious marine life is being needlessly killed because of these floating death traps.

“By creating our beautifully made dog products from recycled nets, Tangle’s helping animal lovers save marine life in the oceans, we’re now on track to stop 526 tennis courts worth (137,800 sqm) of fishing nets becoming ghost nets this year.”

The eco friendly dog product company was co-founded by Xavier Warburton and Sam Cartwright in 2022.

According to a spokesperson for the company, the roots of Tangle sprouted from ”the founders’ serious concern with the risk ghost nets cause with marine life. Tangle is an effort combat this problem in an innovative way.”

Tangle has also joined forces with Ghost Fishing UK, a charity dedicated to removing abandoned, lost and discarded fishing gear from UK waters.

Xavier said: “we’re really glad that each product sold supports such a brilliant charity. The guys over at Ghost Fishing UK work tirelessly to make sure that these silent killers are out of our oceans, we want to do anything we can to help.”
