Southampton’s Shindy Dosanjh co-founded Purpose Homes in 2018 with an aim to provide specialised supported housing for people with learning disabilities and autism.

Now, her dedication to that cause has earned Shindy recognition as an exceptional leader in the sector, and a place on the shortlist for this year’s Women in Housing and Housing Heroes Awards.

Hosted by BBC broadcaster Huw Edwards, the ceremony is set to take place in Manchester on Monday 26 June.

The nominations honour Shindy’s work as Managing Director at Purpose Homes, where she plays a crucial role in seeing projects to fruition and making critical decisions that could make or break their success.

Philip Warr, Chief Executive at Purpose Homes, said: “We are hugely proud of Shindy and what she has achieved.

“More than anything she has demonstrated a strong commitment to providing a friendly and inclusive environment to the whole Purpose team.

“Her efforts to build and promote a caring culture within our team have created a sense of belonging, which has been essential in promoting positive outcomes for those they serve.

“She has also been instrumental in developing programmes and activities for the team that promote socialisation, team building and personal growth.

“She has a clear vision to raise the quality bar of specialised supported housing which inspires, energies and motivates all the staff and stakeholders to work towards a common goal.”

The nominations cited Shindy’s prioritisation of resident’s individual needs and preferences, her commitment to strong relationships with all stakeholders, and her expertise in getting projects funded as the three stand-out attributes in her work at Purpose Homes.
