Plans to boost flight limit at Farnborough Airport could create 950 jobs & add £220m to UK economy

Farnborough Airport has submitted plans to lift its flight limit from 50,000 to 70,000 a year by 2040, an increase of 40 per cent.

That includes doubling the number of flights permitted on weekends and Bank Holidays, from 8,900 to 18,900.

The expansion would also create 950 jobs and bring an extra £220 million to the national economy.

Rushmoor Borough Council has opened up the plans to a public consultation, which runs from now through to Monday 4th December.

Councillors will also write to around 30,000 households under the airport’s flight path and consult with neighbouring authorities.

Chief Executive Simon Geere said: “By satisfying the growing demand for connectivity from Farnborough Airport, our proposals will create hundreds of new jobs within the local community and give a boost to the unique aerospace cluster that we are part of.

“This will be vitally important for the future economic prosperity of the region.”

The airport has also been consulting on proposals to improve its community funds programme, with plans to boost funding for environmental and community projects in the area – including the launch of a new Sustainability Fund.
