Local employability project supporting 200+ young women to be based at Aldershot Enterprise Centre

An initiative offering career guidance and life skills to young, unemployed women across North Hampshire is to be based at Aldershot Enterprise Centre.

Funding from The National Lottery Community Fund will enable New Directions to reach more than 200 people up to the end of 2025.

The team are set to provide one-to-one employability guidance and advice, coordinate work placements, and organise activities and workshops to help build participants’ confidence and improve their interpersonal skills.

Project Manager Henriette Reinders said: “This support will allow us to give young women one-to-one support and inspiration as well as learn vital skills to get ahead in life.

“Our support will build their confidence and strengthen their communication skills, enabling them to overcome any barriers that life may throw at them.

“In addition to the tailored support, we’ll use some engaging and exciting new VR technologies for participants to bridge the gap between learning and employment.”

New Directions will soon be reaching out to local job centres and community groups, as well as the council.

From January 2024, they’ll be available every Thursday between 10am and 2pm at Aldershot Enterprise Centre in the town centre.
