A team of fundraisers have raised £3714 for Southampton cardiac charity by climbing London’s O2 Arena.

The team of fourteen took on one of Heartbeat’s newest fundraising challenges, ascending the 52 metre high structure in the capital last month.

Braving the climb was Heartbeat’s Community Fundraising Manager, Tanya Harder.

She was joined by the charity’s Psychological Cardiac Youth Worker, Becky Cutler; five nurses from the E1 Cardiac ward at the University Hospital Southampton (Jo Palmer, Anna Turnham, Ruth Hoyos, Natasha Coombes, and Katy Stimson); Heartbeat ambassador and patient, Matthew Cornick; and regular supporters of the charity (John Amor, Mike Andrews, Lorraine Ives, Michael Watkins, Michelle Caruana, and Holly Ind).

In climbing the world-famous roof – conquering fears and battling winds – the group were rewarded with incredible views across the city of London.

Tanya Harder said: “Our Climb the O2 challenge is one of our newest fundraising adventures and it didn’t disappoint.

“Although it was tough going at points as we scaled the 365m-journey to the summit, the views at the top made it all worthwhile.

“I’m really proud of the incredible team today and want to thank them for helping us to raise this wonderful amount of money for Heartbeat.

“These funds will go towards supporting heart patients and their families in the region.”

Heartbeat’s ‘Climb the 02’ challenge is a guided 90-minute expedition over the roof of London’s O2.

Suspended above the iconic tent canvas, participants are part of a team who walk the 365m journey to the summit, 52 metres above ground level.

For anyone wanting to sign up to take part in Heartbeat’s July or October 2024 climb, please contact Tanya Harder at [email protected], or visit the charity’s events page: https://www.heartbeat.co.uk/events.
