Hampshire County Council will host an online event for local hospitality and catering businesses later this month to encourage the recruitment of young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
While these sectors struggle with skills gaps and labour shortages, the council has been working with local colleges to identify and support a host of skilled and motivated youngsters eager to enter the workforce.
Their upcoming event will offer case studies from employers in the sector who have built a more inclusive culture and provided meaningful employment to locals as a result of hiring young people with SEND.
Businesses will also hear about the support they can receive from education providers to ensure that the right person finds the right job.
The session is funded by the Education Training Foundation through the Department of Education.
It forms part of the council’s All Our Talents SEND Employability Action Plan, which aims to help young people with additional needs fulfil their aspirations and develop the necessary skills, knowledge and independence to transition into work and adulthood.
The two-hour event is scheduled for Tuesday 26th September, starting at 10am.
