What started off with community cooking workshops for the local community has now blossomed into a full-blown cookbook with the launch of Munch Lunch & Dinner.
Authored by Mary Louise Needham-Carlton, Director of Winchester’s Munch CIC, the book is full of easy-to-follow, healthy and nutritious meals using low cost and easy-to-find ingredients.
Mary wants readers to develop the skills and confidence they need to cook from scratch – particularly younger audiences, citing a ‘massive generational gap’ at this week’s launch event.
“It’s really exciting to be able to help more people access good healthy food and learn about sustainable nutrition”, she said.
“Cooking doesn’t have to be complicated!
“We hope this book will be a useful guide for new cooks, as well as a go-to for experienced cooks, for new ideas for quick mid-week meals.”
As a community interest company, Munch CIC runs after-school ‘grub clubs’ for families, the ‘lunch club’ for adults, and even online courses to help local people get better oriented in the kitchen – all spearheaded by Mary and her husband, chef Denzil Carlton.
“Plus, all profits help individuals and children at our cooking clubs learn valuable life skills, which is what we love more than anything here at Munch”, Mary added.
The book is available in paperback for £14.99, or hardback for £21.99, via Amazon or the Munch CIC website. Production was supported by Winchester City Council.
