Businesses clock up big miles for good causes on Destination Basingstoke’s long distance runs

Runners from local businesses turned out in force last weekend to take part in the 13th Basingstoke Half Marathon and 10k.

Organised by Destination Basingstoke and sponsored by Phillips Law – who entered 50 of their own runners – the event welcomed a total of 895 runners this year, the highest figure since 2019.

The half marathon has become a popular choice for those looking for a challenging but picturesque course, with a route through the borough countryside.

Jonathan Pender, Chair of Destination Basingstoke, said: “Congratulations to everyone who took part in the half marathon and 10k. It was marvellous to see so many people of all ages being involved in the latest chapter of this long-running event.

“We were delighted that the number of registered and actual runners showed a sharp increase on the last few years, and we were thrilled to add the two new Children’s Races.

“The race village was bigger – and, we hope, more inclusive and family-friendly – than ever.

“We’re particularly grateful to headline sponsor Phillips Law and all the other event sponsors and partners, the many wonderful marshals and other volunteers and supporters, and great local suppliers who supported the event.

“We couldn’t have done it without you.”

Those sponsors also include Nomios UK & I, Lilly UK, TD Synnex and Lavazza.

Jonathan added: “Showcasing and celebrating the amazing people, businesses and community organisations that make Basingstoke and Deane a place to be proud of is at the heart of what Destination Basingstoke does.

“We’re already looking forward to the 2024 event when we hope to attract even more runners, spectators, and event sponsors.”

Next year’s event is scheduled for Sunday 6th October 2024.
