The next generation of workers in Havant have been given a boost from Barratt Homes’ Southampton division.

Three employees from the housebuilder went to a skills-building event at Havant’s Link Up Youth Hub, which offers targeted employment and training advice to people between the ages of 16 and 24 in the area.

While there, they spoke to young people about a career in construction as well as carrying out mock interviews with individuals, passing on feedback to help them prepare for future job opportunities.

Barratt Homes Marketing Manager, Megan Hamlyn was one of the housebuilding employees there on the day. She said events like this are a great way to inspire the next generation of builders in the region.

“It’s extremely important that we work together with the communities where we are building new homes, and by working closely with young people in the local area, we can offer training to the next generation of construction workers in the region,” she explained.

“It has been great to come along today and was wonderful to see such enthusiasm from Havant’s youngsters.”

Havant’s Link Up Youth Hub offers one to-one training, support and advice for young people living in the Havant Borough looking for employment or further education opportunities.

Frankie Raines, Project Coodinator and Youth Employment Coach, said: “The aim of these workshops was to give our young people more confidence in an interview setting and to receive some all-important advice in preparation for their future careers.

“We had a great response from everyone who attended today’s session and would like to say a huge thank you to the Barratt team who came in.

“They were all friendly and welcoming and put our young people at ease.”
