In the wake of World Mental Health Day this Tuesday 10th October, Barratt Homes have launched a series of workshops for their Southampton staff.
Entitled ‘Let’s Talk – Building the Conversation’, the new workshops will be delivered to Barratt employees on two occasions over the autumn alongside local charity Solent Mind.
They’ve been designed specifically for those in the construction industry and will focus on how workers can better look after themselves and their colleagues over an hour-and-a-half session.
It comes as part of Barratt Homes’ mental health campaign, spearheaded by the Dignity and Respect committee, which will also see designated staff receiving mental health first aid training to help colleagues who are struggling.
Victoria Grinnall, Assistant Site Manager and a member of the committee, said: “Tackling mental health is an important part of all our lives, and World Mental Health Day is about raising awareness of this as well as driving positive change.
“Construction is a high-pressured industry with tight deadlines to work towards, and Barratt Homes are keen to support the wellbeing of its workers.
“These Solent Mind workshops will be a great way to help get people talking.”
It’s all the more important in light of recent research from The Association for Project Safety (APS), who found that more than 150,000 construction workers may be experiencing mental health problems such as anxiety, stress or depression.
World Mental Health Day is all about raising awareness of these issues and removing the stigma surrounding them.
