Chevrons Living have opened the doors to their new retirement community in Fordingbridge, catering especially to veterans and ex-emergency services staff.
The team were joined by the town mayor, Cllr Peter White, for the official ribbon-cutting ceremony, alongside Sir Desmond Swayne MP.
Guests enjoyed a drinks reception soundtracked by The Gershwin Gang, who turned back the clocks to the 40s and 50s with some popular swing and jazz numbers.
Chevrons CEO Barry Robbins delivered a short introduction before visitors were invited to explore the new development, which features 10 studio rooms, landscaped gardens and the stylish Elizabeth Bar.
Mayor Cllr White said: “Chevrons is an incredibly high-quality facility for active seniors.
“The rooms are beautifully designed and the whole setup has a great atmosphere.
“The ability to be able to live independently within a community environment is really special, and the Elizabeth Bar must be seen to be believed.
“I’m not there yet, but would definitely consider it for my later years. I think anyone living here would be extremely happy.”
Local establishments The Railway Hotel and The Royal Oak also chipped in for the opening day with catering services and prizes for the military-themed quiz, alongside a luxury hamper from The Gourmet Grocer.
They were joined by speakers from the Fordingbridge Museum, who shared stories of the town during wartime, and guests could take part in a workshop to create a community poppy wreath in aid of the Royal British Legion.
The day was capped off by a flag-raising ceremony in honour of military veterans – the very audience which Barry Robbins and his team are hoping to attract.
“Chevrons Living is a true community-focused venture, and was created with our wonderful veterans and ex-emergency service staff in mind”, he said.
“It’s a place where people can come and enjoy our beautiful town while retaining a sense of independence and camaraderie that they may have lost over the years.
“We’re immensely pleased with the positive reception from the day.
“Feedback from the event has been hugely positive and we look forward to continuing this exciting journey alongside the Fordingbridge community, who’ve been so supportive.”
Each room at the new facility is en-suite and features wardrobes, beds, furniture, and small kitchens or kitchenettes.
An in-house chef will provide various catering options, from breakfast alone to half or full board.
Residents will also have access to a community hub room with local information and computer access, while the newly formed Escape Committee is set to organise visits to local attractions and historical sites.
