Solent Mind’s Mayfield Garden Centre has been given some TLC by two volunteers from housebuilder Barratt Homes.
At the end of last month, Commercial Manager Christopher Sharp and Assistant Land Buyer Niall Wood got stuck in at the Mayfield Park charity centre, helping to clear waste from the site ahead of the upcoming warmer months.
Mayfield Garden Centre, part of mental health charity Solent Mind, provides a welcoming place for people to meet friends and family.
Along with opening for the public to sell plants and serve food from its cafe, the centre runs wellbeing groups for people in the region.
Every penny made by the centre is invested back into helping people with mental health issues.
Jo Silsbury, Lead Corporate Fundraiser at Solent Mind, said: “Our corporate volunteer days are open to any organisation who partner with us either through fundraising, donations or by purchasing wellbeing training, and we’re really grateful for the Barratt workers who came along today.
“Volunteering has been shown to be great for staff wellbeing so it’s a win win situation for us. We benefit from some extra hands to help with all the jobs on a large site and our corporate partners have happy staff who get a great sense of fulfillment from having volunteered for a day.”
Tammy Bishop, Barratt Homes Sales Director, said: “We want to support charities in the communities where we are building new homes, and Solent Mind’s Mayfield Garden Centre is doing great things for people in the local area. It’s always a pleasure to help where we can.”
Barratt Homes is building new homes across the region. It is committed to supporting local causes, and its employees are all entitled to two days per year to take as volunteering days.
