Hamble Pan Disability FC were still able to enjoy their Christmas party and disco last Friday despite a last-minute cancellation thanks to the quick thinking of a local business.
After hearing that a sponsor had unexpectedly pulled out, Shedfield-based Silverlake Automotive Recycling stepped in to ensure the more than 100 partygoers could go ahead with the celebrations at the Bitterne Royal British Legion Club in Southampton.
Silverlake is also kit sponsor for the adult pan participation squad at the club, which fields 98 players across eight teams – making it the largest disability football club on the South Coast.
Dave Parsons, pan disability secretary, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to Silverlake – firstly for their kit sponsorship and secondly for saving the day by funding the Christmas party.
“For many children and young people with disabilities, the chances to go to a Christmas party can be limited, and they can also feel socially anxious at the prospect.
“Our club is a safe place, and because we’re such a close-knit football family, they feel confident to party and have fun.
“It would’ve been a huge disappointment for everyone if we’d needed to cancel.
“We’re looking forward to a long and rewarding partnership with Silverlake.”
Tom Harvey, head of organisation development at Silverlake, added: “We were introduced to Hamble Pan Disability FC by a member of staff who has a son with autism that plays for the club.
“He told us first-hand about the difference it makes to his son’s wellbeing, self-esteem and family life.
“We were delighted to get involved and committed to supporting the club by sponsoring the team kit.
“As for the Christmas party, we just knew we had to make that happen.
“This club makes football accessible to all in our community. We believe in their goal and are proud to be able to support their passion.”
