Landsec has announced multi-million-pound plans for its Gunwharf Quays development in Portsmouth.
The revamp would bring new flooring, lighting, and decor to the shopping centre, as well as an array of rooftop solar panels just recently approved by the council.
Cllr Steve Pitt, leader of Portsmouth City Council, hailed Landsec’s £45 million investment as ‘a sign of confidence’ in the city.
He added: “Gunwharf is a flagship development, not only for Portsmouth residents but also attracting people from outside the city.
“It’s really great news that Landsec are willing to make this level of investment.
“The council is getting enquiries all the time from companies looking to invest in the city and that proves the message we’ve set out that Portsmouth is a great place to be.”
Work is expected to start early next year pending planning permission, with the first phase focusing on The Avenues.
Gunwharf Quays’ centre director Yvonne Clay added: “The improvement works will ensure our retailers continue to flourish and benefit from an environment that best helps them to connect with their customers.
“This investment demonstrates our confidence that retail and Gunwharf Quays will continue to be a key contributor to creating long-term value for Portsmouth.”
