For half a decade now, The Garlic Farm on the Isle of Wight has been working to meet the rigorous social and environmental standards required for B Corp certification.

The Garlic Farm logoCentral to that effort has been their focus on efficiency and respect – two words which drive everything the company does.

In terms of efficiency, The Garlic Farm is looking to reduce its food waste, energy use and water use by 10 per cent annually.

But alongside that comes respect for people, reflected in the company’s accreditation with the Living Wage Foundation and a pledge to put 10 per cent of all profits towards the local community and ecological projects.

Natasha Edwards was born and raised on The Garlic Farm – a member of county food group Hampshire Fare – and now runs the family business with her husband, Barnes.

Natasha Edwards“We’re incredibly proud of the team for learning so much about restorative and respectful practices within all the B Corp categories”, said the couple.

Those include the five impact areas of Governance, Workers, Community, Environment and Customers.

“Over time, we’ll be sharing details of the changes, improvements, and efficiencies that they’ve discovered and delivered.

“Our farm team are passionate and persistent people, and this accreditation is proof of what they care about and are capable of.

“This five-year effort marks the start, not the end of our journey toward a better way of doing business.”
