Over the next week and a half, historical sites around the country will open their doors to the public for Heritage Open Days – and Southampton has plenty to show off.

The Bargate
GO! Southampton have teamed up with ‘a space’ arts to commission a trail map of the city’s Old Town, designed by Southampton’s own Mandy Smith.
It features many of the newly restored medieval vaults and monuments, as well as The Weigh House and the Bargate, originally constructed in 1180 AD.
Visitors will be able to follow along the Old Town Walls and check routes suitable for wheelchairs.
The University of Southampton has also chipped in to offer visitors an immersive 3D experience through a series of experimental AR images, accessible via an on-site QR code.
Heritage Open Days began as a volunteer-led initiative in 1994 and continues to this day.
This year’s event runs from Friday 8th to Sunday 17th September.
